How To Diagnose And Properly Treat Joint Muscle Pain
Joint muscle pain can be caused in many different ways and by many different underlying conditions. In many cases, it will not be serious and will simply be the extension of overwork, of putting strain on the muscles by operating in an uncomfortable way, or even just working in an environment which sets up a strain on different parts of the body. There are, though, several very serious underlying conditions which will need specialized medical attention. You need to know exactly what is causing the problem before you attempt to treat it. If in any doubt, get it checked out
The first step to try in combating muscle and joint pain is to rest the limbs which are giving you the pain. Often, strained limbs can be brought back to health simply by being given chance to recover. This will happen in cases where the pain is caused by the body being temporarily strained. The most important consideration here is to stop whatever is causing the strain as soon as you notice any discomfort. Don't try to be some kind of hero by working through the pain.
Arthritis is a major cause of joint muscle pain, and affects thousands of people in late middle age or later. It is important to be able to define the exact type of arthritis, as the treatments involved vary considerably. In the case of rheumatoid arthritis, the rest which is normally so beneficial to the muscles and limbs will actually be a negative factor. Rheumatoid arthritis is a stiffness caused by the body's own immune system attacking its own tissues. Just what causes this remains largely unknown.
This type of arthritis has no known cure, but there are steps which can be taken to lessen the pain and make the patient's life more comfortable. The condition is invariably at its worst in the morning, and this is because prolonged rest allows the joint to become stiff. Very gentle exercise is necessary to start the process of freeing the joint to move again. Applying this gentle exercise while the body is being warmed and supported by water is one way to smooth the operation and make it less painful.
Joint muscle pain can also be caused by a thyroid deficiency, or by Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. In these cases, the usual treatment is rest and the avoidance of further strain, allied to an improvement in general health through improved diet and living habits. Being grossly overweight is one of the worst ways of adding to the strain which is placed on already suffering limbs, and returning to optimum bodily weight is one of the surest ways to lessen pain. Carrying out gentle exercise, and being careful not to put any additional strain on the limbs, is the way to relieve joint muscle pain.
